back when i was taking this class in logic, the professor asked the class for a couple examples of a true statement. the immediate responses were “the sky is blue” and “the earth is round”. the professor went on a brief tangent to remark that whenever he did this exercise, in all his years of teaching this course, those would always be the answers he received.
i don’t have any grand observation to make about that, but it continues to stick in my mind, the idea that this serves as the most elemental reality for many of us. the sky is blue. the earth is round.
