label each unnumbered cell with a number from 1 to n, where n is the side length of the grid, such that every number is present in each row and column. each number outside of the grid indicates the sum of the x nearest numbers along its line of sight into the grid, where x is the nearest number.

so i was reviewing older puzzles of mine and i considered this one. it previously had a design i wasn’t very happy w/ in retrospect, and i’ve since replaced it w/ one i think is much stronger while carrying the same idea. just noting the edit here.
