come make video games, we've got:
- players don't look up
- players don't look down
- players don't look
- players don't read
- players don't listen
- players don't look
- players don't look
- players don't look
- PLAYERS DON'T LOOK
come make video games, we've got:
seeing another "video essay" titled "[INSERT GAME HERE] Thinks You're STUPID" and staring knowingly into the camera

"[INSERT GAME HERE] Didn't Want To Patronise You But The Playtests Speak For Themselves" doesn't really roll off the tongue, huh
I love that portal and portal 2 have developer commentary so you can hear them talk about just how frustrating it was to design a game about gravity for players who don't look up
Terrible news! People don't look up OR down in real life either. Source: I work in a grocery store and the amount of people who just. Don't. Is astounding.
Tbh people don’t read either. You can have a flashing neon sign telling them what they want to know and they’ll ignore it
de_rats style first person map where its the mouse trap board game slowly doing its rube goldberg machine and players inevitably find themselves trapped in the cage that falls down at the end
When I'm playing shooters I'm either tunnel vision because I must Destroy as fast as possible or I'm distracted trying to find a way to break the geometry
🦨I remember making some offhand remark about the "tutorial bushes" in our game because we had a note that said "if the player can't figure out how to get past these they can't play the game," and someone said "that's kinda mean tbh" and I'm like, literally the entire point of the game is to spin into things (which cuts down bushes) and if the player can't figure that out then they literally cannot play this game. That's like one of your two moves lmao
I will readily admit, I made it about 4 worlds in to Super Meat Boy because the game has a tutorial level for sprinting but you can beat it without sprinting and I thought the game was just doing it's extreme difficulty thing.
God, I was just playing some Mirror's Edge, and I had to remind myself that sometimes, I need to look up.
Wondering how much effort went into forcing the player to look at the plane crashing into the underwater tunnel at the start of Bioshock...
