@crocoshift and i have been continuing to watch Death Note and she has been trying to approach it So Thoughtfully and Critical-Analysis-ly and i have been sort of trying to despite knowing where it goes. the thing with Death Note is, it's a trainwreck that also falls into a canyon and bounces a lot. you get slammed into enough walls on the way down that you just stop forming new memories. so you come back to it thinking "i know this gets stupid and why/how it gets stupid" but no, you don't. you don't even remember HALF of how it gets stupid, and then you're like "WHAT. WHAT. WHAT? ?? ? ?" all over again. it constantly threatens to be good, and then for every Good thing, there is an opposite (but very unequal) reaction in the form of Some Unbelievable Horseshit. sometimes it also becomes hacky fanfiction of itself (this week's episodes include the "L and Light are handcuffed together for a while" plotline). it sucks in a way that rules. it rules in a way that sucks. i guarantee you i will rewatch it again a few years down the line.
anyway here's my fav screenshot from this week, please notice with us:
- one of the best Misa drawings in the show
- this frame is CONSPICUOUSLY carefully drawn at a point in the show where everything has gone very off-model and janky for like, a LOT of the runtime. like we've approached an almost Sailor Moon Crystal level of "WHAT model sheet??? lol" in a lot of episodes but this is a Nice frame that accurately resembles the manga style more than most of the show really bothers to
- L's been working with the cops for years but no one has told him crack is wack
- the Anime Fighting Bruise Marks on Light's face are placed like you would draw little blushy marks
