got a rush of artistic motivation and spent all day making this animation of my mariosona, blupe, returning a key to buginacup's mariosona, phanta

i made this partially through hacking an SMB2 ROM + recording gifs of gameplay and the rest through manual animation in aseprite, though outside of one visual detail for the blupe's gameplay animation that i got so particular about i spent multiple hours figuring out how to change it in SMB2's code, most of the time was spent procedurally animating text in aseprite.

to try and capture the charm of NES-era localization jobs, i intentionally wrote in some grammar and formatting oddities. under the readmore i've included a transcript of the exchange with accurate grammar and described formatting
