I worry a bit about Americans going "HEY GUYS DID YOU KNOW LIBRARIES DO [list of about fifty things]" and it's, like,
do you know that's fucking absurd? That all of that's been crammed into a single clown car of a thing solely because of a hatred of public services? That literally none of it can possibly be well served by being smuggled together under a single aegis, underfunded even for its nominal primary purpose? That in a better world your library categorically wouldn't fucking do all that, because all of it would still be provided but in individually fit-for-purpose ways?
Don't forget your local library has to plan for a food kitchen, homeless shelter, detox facility, and an extra drunk tank for the local PD or they have 8,000 dollars (8% of their annual budget) removed in a closed door town hall session!
