not my ass learning only today that all the people at wisdom tree, the company that made all the shitty christian games for nes as well as Super Noah's Ark 3D, were atheists who were only doing it because they realized they could exploit christian parents easier than they could sell unlicensed nintendo games. super noah's ark was built to be a hellraiser license title and they just swapped out all the art at the last second. #entrepreneur #stevejobs #wow

in reply to @cathoderaydude's post:

IIRC Nintendo said they wouldn't do business with anyone who sold unlicensed games, so they were like "okay, but what if we found a market that doesn't care about Nintendo blacklisting them?"

So naturally a target demographic that thinks Nintendo is literally run by the devil and thus anything they don't like has to be good must've looked like a friggin' gold mine

Well it seems to have worked out for Color Dreams/Wisdom Tree so presumably they managed to tap into some part of the fundie thought process that us mere mortals can't even comprehend. That or they were buying all those games about Baby Jesus playing with death spikes to try and convert their Nintendo-playing relatives

There were people who were super hardcore into how video games and rock music were endangering children's souls, but there were also people who were way less hardcore but still were exposed to that ideology through whackos in their church or wherever.

You're right that the first group largely did not buy Nintendo games at all, but the second group could be talked into it — especially if it was a Good Christian game.

Add to that second group people who were friends and family with parents who owned Nintendos. Even if they were personally suspicious of video games, they might still buy Noah's Arc 3d for other people's children. That way they get to be the cool aunt for a day while still believing they were doing some palliative good.

As someone who owned multiple Wisdom Tree games, and various other Christian media as a kid, yeah pretty much this.

My parents were the ones who bought the gaming machines for themselves first and foremost, so they were never fully on board with the video games are evil crowd, but enough that the prospect of getting some more “wholesome” games for us kiddoes had appeal.
