It was always too good to exist.
All of the inevitable chatter about going to bluesky, or threads or mastodon or whatever - I don't really get it. Twitter going down the pan was a golden ticket to an improved relationship with the Internet and even one's mental health overall. I'd say it's crazy that people are so eager to flock to one of these sites after the 2010s, but it's not too surprising, I guess - it's just human nature.
I only posted and browsed on here precisely because of its nature, and focus. It made me want to be here.
Absolutely no regrets with my stacks of cohost plus subs, nor my eggbug plushie, who will of course live on forever.
It's been so lovely following all of the illustrators, writers, game developers, photographers, musicians, and just Regular Gay Folk Going About Their Lives and having a nice few mutuals along the way, despite being a lurker for a lot of it. The indie dev scene here even motivated me to make my first game (and first creative project generally)! Something I never predicted would happen before cohost.
I hope to see some form of cohost's community band together for something that has a similar spirit: whether it's a site maintained by an open source development (if not even a fairly direct port of cohost), or some cool use of RSS aggregation or something in between. I just hope to see you all on a similarly delightful platform next year!
