Goblin Mode has been named Word of the Year by the Oxford English Dictionary. This is after a public vote where it won 318,956 votes, 93% of the total.
The other nominees were Metaverse and #IStandWith, which has been used on social media to show support for Ukraine in the wake of invasion by Russia, but also to show support for transphobes.
Other words of the year for 2022 include Homer from Cambridge Dictionary, as a consequence of Wordle, and Permacrisis from Collins Dictionary, thanks to all of the non-stop crises.
