Decision fatigue existing means that having personal rules ('if X then Y') that help me make automatic decisions in the future is good to prevent that fatigue.

One of the rules I like to follow is to always contribute to a good friend's video game kickstarter, or GoFundme, Patreon, charity drive etc, no matter if i'm the target audience for it or not. You might think 'duh!'. But there was a time, when without thinking I'd automatically evaluate the kickstarter for a moment as if it was relevant to my decision whether to pledge. Like it was any other Kickstarter I was looking at. WTF. Why?! I shouldn't have to think at all, it should be an absolute no-brainer decision!!

Have you always wanted to be a better friend? Are you the kind who always struggles to get the right present for someone? Well if they make a Kickstarter, that's the most clear signal of saying 'this is something I want, and will mean a lot to me if anyone contributes'. What an amazing opportunity to help! Chances like these come so rarely. Whether you would enjoy the game is absolutely the most irrelevant thing!

Similarly: if a good friend has spent a chunk of their life on a passion project, it should be a no-brainer for me to at least give it a go. I shouldn't think 'hmm but i don't really read fanfiction / play tower defense games / see weird indie stage plays'. If it doesn't take that long and I'm a good friend of theirs, then I should experience it, and make it a big priority to do so. Especially as a game developer it's virtually guaranteed that I will take away something from playing a friend's game even if i'm not in its target audience anyway.

If someone significant in your life has worked on something for a long time and you haven't made the time to check it out yet, know that it will probably mean a lot to them if you did. I once overheard my parents trying to play like 1-1 of ADOFAI from another room on their phone. They didnt get far at all of course but secretly it really warmed my heart to hear them discussing how to play the game and taking turns. They probably forgot all about it and went for lunch but it remains a nice memory for me.

(and I also feel kinda bad that ADOFAI still isnt really that accessible to a totally casual audience like my parents and think there must be a way to make it so. One day...)

Anyway, this is the one tip I'm finally adding to my Beginner Gamedev Tips doc. Always contribute to a friend's Kickstarter. Applicable to myself and my financial state, may not be applicable if a Kickstarter pledge amount significantly affects your budget. Maybe as a creator you feel differently, feel free to let me know.
