I'm at @gutterdaughter's place with a friend who is in town and we are all trying to play Guilty Gear Xrd on a Steam Deck (there are two Steam Decks, in fact)
With three arcade sticks plugged into the deck, we boot Xrd and are met with a "corrupted everything" alert. Other games work (we try +R, a third controller isn't recognized but nothing is screaming) but Xrd always breaks and it never shows more than two controllers.
"Maybe the storage is bad? We could try my Steam Deck."
Swapped decks, the exact same problem happens. Every save file is corrupted. So maybe it's a bug that's happening to everyone? We're all in discords, surely someone else has said something about their saves getting corrupted.
No luck. It's a problem for only us. It's something with us. A third stick is not getting noticed, and shit is fucked. Memory safety is on my mind because of this week.
"....heeeey, can you unplug my stick and restart Xrd?"
Everything opens as normal. Motherfuck.
Anyways I'm not debugging this more, we're switching to the PS4 and I'm writing a post on the Steam forums. Never trust anyone who says PC should become tournament standard.
There are only two USB ports on the PS4, which is... fair, I guess? I know that GGXrd supports up to four players as a console game, but the PS4 designers were probably expecting some of those people to have wireless controllers, because they were not tapped in to the "weed-smoking trans women" demographic. A USB hub is on the list for next time.
Unfortunately, we still weren't able to easily swap out USB cables and "just work," because controllers have to be connected to a profile, and you are signed out when you disconnect. Even more fun is that Xrd's menu control only goes to the profile that started the game - Erin and our friend played a set, and then when Erin swapped out so I could play, neither of us were able to navigate in the main menus.
It took us a bit to figure out - I played some sets on her arcade stick before eventually realizing "one of us needs to be Erin at all times,"1 then switched back to my own stick and played on her profile, which worked out just fine. This got rid of most of the hassle, but since we were hoping to use the different profiles to keep our own button mappings, we had to re-map every time and it wasn't the worst but blehhh
Anyways, it was worth it for Guilty Gear.
