I've never watched the original. Just to start. Nor was I interested in watching. But I was asked to watched so I did.
It was a rather enjoyable flick, the gore was on point and surprisingly had a lot of restraint in fact. The movie is not blasting you in horror, but soaking you in it, until you notice the water is actually piss red. JK, the movie has a lot of moments where it shows you how the tragedy is gonna go down before it does.
Umm.
It was fun and I enjoyed how it didn't lean on jump scares for its horror. It lets your imagination do the work (with some help from the AMAZING sound design) before showing you things.
