Hello, I have written sad bocchi fanfic in an attempt to exorcise the way this show makes me feel, it is probably not recommended that you read this
tfw you're listening to post-rock and the spin cycle in the other room harmonizes it
(this is a @joyces snipe-chost)
youtube just threw this performance from episode 8 at me: https://youtu.be/WdXd6xznH1o
(does that embed on chost? guess we'll find out, idk how the internet works)
and, like, it's weird to be saying this about an animation, especially a sequence that has some amazingly well-observed animation in it, but the stillness is so important here. There's no over-expressed eyes-widening surprise from the audience, the only hint of movement is that in the previous song you saw the two figures on the left looking more down at their phones and now their heads are up.
all the other shots of the crowd are basically still as well
and that's what these gigs are like. people don't move a lot (this sucks, by the way, if you've ever been like the two girls at the front god bless you) at these tiny under-attended shows by beginner bands. It's so hard when you're up on stage to feel like anyone at all out there is into it, and if you care about people responding to your music (which, power to you if you can do it out of your own love, that's probably healthier >.>'') you have to get so good at looking for the faintest possible hints
(to say nothing of fighting off the brain goblins telling you even those hints are just people being nice)
We don't get typhoons where I live but it does rain a lot and the number of gigs I've played where all our friends just flaked because of the weather and we played in a cold dark cave to eight damp people who were there to see someone else is just... this show Gets It so hard, and it hurts TT_TT
a bocchi thought I haven't been able to stop thonking since the latest episode and that I haven't seen anyone rave about yet is the first song of the set, the performance being bad. It is SO HARD to deliberately play badly in a band setting like that, idk whether the performance was recorded live or they did the parts separately in a studio (I'm not sure which would be harder) but they pulled off perfectly what it's like to hear an inexperienced indie band not quite playing together
also one thing they got exactly right is the lead guitarist blaming the drummer for playing slow instead of PLAYING TO THE DRUMMER'S TEMPO LIKE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO no I am not a drummer with a chip on my shoulder about guitarists
