You have a rare opportunity this Sunday to see "Neptune Frost", the bizarre sci fi musical/movie written by Saul Williams. There's so much going on in this, it's an a-capella rock opera, magical realist sci fi that feels like a stage play filmed in a field, a post-singularity story where the point is the singularity doesn't change anything in Africa's cobalt mining communities. Almost the entire movie is in an invented language that appears to be a hypothetical future pan-African pidgin. There is Gender. I saw this in 2022 and I still can't stop thinking about it. There's still a really long unfinished post in my Cohost drafts about how this movie is the African version of "Alphaville"

i am sadly not in toronto and have not seen the movie yet but i used to be obsessed with saul williams' music back in the day, i haven't kept up with him much but i definitely want to find a way to watch this
