in my last post i finished my first route in Echo, and i just recently finished my second route. as usual, i'll keep any and all spoilers generic and/or minor, but if you're about that completely unspoilered experience, i leave the rest of this post below the break.
so my first route was TJ's, and this most recent route was Carl's. gonna be probably playing Leo next, then Jenna, and Flynn last.
now in the position of drawing from two routes, it is incredibly fascinating how they both draw on not just different parts of the plot for horror to focus on, but also seemingly use different styles of horror to do so. whereas TJ's route focused on more of the horror done by and between each of the characters, Carl's route was a lot more of a ghost story, and felt a lot more like a supernatural horror flick. that's about the most i can say without being a hell of a lot more spoilery.
personally, i felt TJ's route to be the more personally compelling of the two. (what can i say, i'm a sucker for interpersonal drama.) however, i definitely found Carl's the scarier of the two, and the first version of the ending that i got was a gut punch and a half. (context-free spoilers for which one: house fire). it was only then that i realized that some of the routes actually DO have alternate endings, so of course i had to stay up and awake to see them all. good video game
