Assume everything i don't mention is great, because it probably is. and otherwise this is just a collection of notes. Hard mode is not hard enough, and i actively tried to experiment with strategies and not stick with anything for too long. On the technical side I thought it was really iffy - framerate is so inconsistent in overworld and my inputs got stuck really often (as in, for example, i'd be holding up on the stick and let go, but the game would keep moving up for like half a second). Picking objects up is also an absolute crapshoot sometimes. Cutscenes will transition to the next in game scene in ways that are borderline interruptions. I experienced major bugs in battles more than once (a softlock, a character ability not applying, some movement/sightline issues). The audio mix in handheld mode at least is bizarre, with the music being really quiet compared to everything else even at 100% setting. The character writing is just a little too lean for Edge and co. The random battles just don't fit the format IMO especially when you're clearing them in about 2 moves and they have so much boilerplate time around them - the first game's level design shines more in comparison because of these filler fights, though there are still some very cool levels in this one (even if you can slaughter them in like 2 turns with how much freedom of movement the game gives you. sort of a feature not a bug, though.)
Other than that, this is another really really fun and inventive strategy RPG that happens to be a rayman mascot spinoff crossover with super mario. The music is actually so good that it feels a little out of place at times with some of the more mediocre parts of the game? Absolutely stellar stuff there. The visual design of just about everything is really great as well as the animation - just a shame that the framerate issues hinder it a bit. The voice acting, too, is weirdly really fun. I love rabbid Rosalina and Mario especially. Really excited for the DLC!
