these fuckers hard! they're the hardest sandbox challenge there is in Destiny and are intended to be completed with 3 people. they're also packed with Champions which are a few special enemy types that require specialized mods to take down at all, and the mods only go on certain weapon types per Season (or there are Exotic weapons that have an anti-Champion thing perma-built-in), so you have to build your loadout around those restrictions in addition to strike specific elemental damage buffs and what elemental shields are present, because those are highly resistant to non-matched elemental damage in GMs (and much other hard content). also, your level is capped to significantly lower than the enemies', so you deal less and take more damage.

it's pretty fun to route out incredibly hard content and eke out every bit of advantage you can get in your loadout. i haven't completed either of the ones i've tried (they change weekly) but i've gotten 80-90% there on both. new Season starts tuesday so i won't get a chance to actually complete one this Season, but next... i'm comin' for their asses

attached is a far-too-detailed infographic of my loadout

in reply to @eden's post:

:D what subclass were you doing on titan? i’m still a warlock main but some of the new subclass 3.0 stuff has me looking at Sentinel pretty nice, even though i’ve been stuck to warlock this season. and then there’s whatever they drop on tuesday for the next updated subclass which could bust everything up

I've been doing sentinel but even at like 1570 doing the 1550 guardian games content it just feels like i do no damage & constantly get one shot even with max resistance :( just started playing this season so I'm still not familiar with what high level pve builds look like

gotcha! what weapons were you using? the 1550 gg strike is basically just a Nightfall of that level but with scoring & the score based buffs, and Nightfall enemies are more accurate and aggressive than most trash adds in other content yeah. Nightfalls also have 'acute burns' which increase incoming damage of an element by 50% (!!) but increase your outgoing damage of that element by 25% too. Usually that won't warrant a subclass change, but it does make it more advantageous to run, say, an Arc hand cannon in an Arc burn NF when you'd normally use a void one. not a make-or-break bonus though.

on the topic of damage resistance, yeah, a 1550 nightfall enemy can get pretty damaging especially if they're taking advantage of the burn. of course one of the best strategies is using cover and movement to avoid taking the damage in the first place, but other than that, using appropriate damage resist mods in the chest armor mid 2 slots is hugely beneficial for 25% reduction (multiplicative). concussive dampener is generally very useful, but there's also nothing wrong with just rocking 2 Arc Resists to counteract an Arc burn - you'll have diminishing returns from stacking 2 of the same but not so much that the second is useless. also, fyi the Melee Resist and Sniper Resist mod names are a bit misleading - Melee works on any enemy within melee range, and Sniper works on any enemy beyond about 30 meters away. (in the screenshot, i have 5 resists on instead of the normal 2 because of a bunch of niche shit that probably won't matter when the Artifact changes tomorrow lol). for almost any pve activity at like "powerful cap" (1550 this season, usually increases by 10 each season) imo damage resist mods are easily a must-have in the chest slots

and then for Resilience - it's probably the most bizarre stat in terms of actual effects, and normally isn't worth investing into IMO. it gives you very very minor health increases but those are almost completely worthless in all PVE activities (but there are some useful breakpoints with Resilience that can save you from an extra shot in PVP). it also reduces stasis breakout damage ofc (almost never useful in PVE as well), as of tomorrow it gives you minor flinch reduction (but compared to other sources it's not much), and if you're on a Titan it helps your Barricade cooldown which is the big one. If you're on Sentinel with the Bastion aspect, your barricade becomes a source of constant overshields for you and allies, and that overshield gives you some damage resistance while it's active too. (it's pretty sick with Rally Barricade, which also has a shorter cooldown than Towering Barricade which is what most everyone uses.) for that reason only it makes sense to spec a bit into resilience on titan, but it's not the highest priority, and using the "utility kickstart" Stasis class item mod will help the cooldown a ton. in general, i basically never run without 100 recovery if i can help it - even for non-Warlocks, getting your HP back as fast as possible to get back in the fight is simply an enormous tempo increase for your play.

as far as 'serious' titan loadouts, it's hard to ever go wrong with Heart of Inmost Light if you have that. it just works with every subclass super well. but there are plenty of other fun neutral Titan exotics too, like Crest of Alpha Lupi or One-Eyed Mask. Thundercrash is the other heavy hitter for titan subclasses right now, and with that subclass, Cuirass of the Falling Star is almost mandatory for doubling your Thundercrash's damage. and if you don't have any of those, keep an eye on the daily lost sector rotations and maybe try to farm one out on the appropriate day. Legend lost sectors are eminently doable with practice and are the best (slash only) way to get a lot of the Exotic armor in the game right now. you should be able to see what the day's lost sector is on https://todayindestiny.com - the armor slot rotates daily as well between the 4 slots, so since i listed 3 chest exotics, probably want to wait for a chest day on that. there should be plenty of guides and speedruns ou there for each LS, so you can just copy what they do more or less lol

infodump complete...! hmu if you have more questions? on here or just on discord :) eden#8008

the build i was running did have damage resist mods matching the elemental burn and i was using alpha lupi bc it's the best neutral titan exotic i have, but i didn't realize how little resilience did in pve. and as far as weapons i was using masterworked arbalest for barriers and an arc pulse rifle as my primary fire to deal with arc shields. it just felt very low damage & like i couldn't make much of an impact, but knowing resilience is less important i will probably try to spec more into one of those "grenades and shield tosses refresh each other" builds in the future with sentinel. i was running that type of build with le monarque for a while and it felt good but had no easy source of arc or solar damage & left me unable to use arbalest, so i had to rely on teammates for taking down shields which wasnt great. now that the new season has dropped, i'll probably see if i can put together a good sunbreaker build around hallowfire heart, which kind of just plays like a Buff Warlock anyways lol

it’s honedtly so fucking funny that i typed all that and then today tthey just absolutely went nuts and made Resilience insanely good and nerfed chest resist mods a bit. Resilience now has VERY exponential scaling on being a universal DR source up to 40% at tier 10, and now chest mods are 15% for one mod or 25% for two of the same. So… what the hell lmao. High resilience/recov is now huge. Although also a huge thing with Sentinel is getting abilities out, since Controlled Demolition gets you healing and Bastion gets you overshields and shield toss gives you overshield chunks also on hit. I have 0 experience with new solar titan so far but new sunspots have a shitload of healing which is really cool, i think there could be some great builds there but at this time I think Sentinel’s still one of the best subclasses in the whole game tbh. There are some crazy Solar fragments too that are locked rn, they might unlock after world’s first dungeon on friday? not sure

OH ALSO yeah weapons can be tough, I’ll tell you even though they feel a lot better now than before, pulse rifles still feel fairly weak to me especially against anything that’s not a red bar. Hand cannons are a tiny bit better but mostly just better against red bars. Bows and high rpm scouts are quite good options in the sandbox if you want to keep some range, and SMGs, Sidearms, and 720rpm auto rifles are a bit better than those but range limited a bit. Imo you will probably feel a difference trying one of those weapons versus the bread and butter pulse rifles and hand cannons! Funnelweb and Krait in the world loot pool are two extremely good options for that, right off the bat. And Monarque is sick as fuck, I did a ton of last season overusing it, with a hand cannon purely for unstop. You can combine it with one of the void fragments to give you Volatile Rounds on grenade kills, then your targets will get made Volatile by your shot and the poison damage will detonate that Volatile, which i think will heal you with Controlled Demolition and spread the debuff. the Devour-on-picking-up-orb of light fragment is also crazy for survivability, you just need a Siphon helmet mod to match a gun and then boom, full health on every single add kill

yeah i think that was basically the build i was running, it just meant sacrificing antibarrier bc piercing bowstring is bugged on le monarwue and i think any other bow with an on hit effect. also I'm now having a great time with an ability spam solar 3.0 build as my main source of damage, and then servant leader and tresspasser to deal with champions. I'll see whether i value the ability uptime or enhanced resilience more once i get into harder stuff again this season. aside from still being sub-1560, i just haven't been able to do anything with no matchmaking bc i haven't been awake at the same time as anyone i would usually play with 😅

wait what was the bug with monarque? i used it all season and had 0 problems with champions ever, although it doesn’t go through Phalanx shields for example like AB stuff is normally supposed to. i’m probably going to have a similar double primary thing this season although i don’t know what with… anti-barrier Forerunner is VERY appealing though muahahaha
