Hat is the Jalie 2318 toque, and mittens are Max & Meena Merry Mittens that I modified to be convertible. (In a nutshell: Slit the palm pattern piece in half, add a bit to each side of the slit, cut fabric, sew panels together to get your original piece back, complete as usual.)
He wanted his hat loose (he does not like tight things on his head), AND he was already at the top end of Jalie's hat size range, so I did the pattern at 110.3% to get the fit he wanted.
Fabric is heavyweight Polartec Windpro fleece, black, from Mill Yardage.com. This stuff is approximately 620gsm! It also attracts every bit of lint and hair nearby, but that's the trade-off for wanting black fleece accessories.
