Pattern: Itch to Stitch Mila Shirt
Fabric: Robert Kaufman Durango Flannel, colorway Plaid Adventure, 8.55 oz/sq. yd/290gsm, 100% cotton
I modified the heck out of this. I added a button band, I changed the seam allowance to let me flat-fell them, made the cuffs as two pieces, and I swapped in tower plackets for the called-for continuous lap sleeve plackets.
I sized this to wear over a few layers, so I didn't take in the waist and it's definitely boxy. It's starting to soften up a bit, though, so when I wear it open I have a waist again. (Strong verticals on my torso erase my figure, but horizontals are fine, and in fact can help when they're actually fitted.)
I don't think I'll wear the collar button closed. It reminds me of mid-century maternity wear, when combined with all that positive ease, and that is definitely not the look I'm going for!
I am absolutely in love with the reverse bold stripe side! The colors are all nice near my face, the horizontals fall at pleasing spots, and the buttons being hidden away inside leave a nice clean button band. The plaid side is not quite as nicely aligned as it should be, but when I wear it open it's fine. I am very happy with my pattern matching skills for both.
I've got enough fabric left to make pajama pants, too! Whoever cut it at Fabric.com this summer gave me 5 yards when I ordered 3, so I thank them for their act of service as their company's shut down loomed.
