My hobbies are all excuses to collect pretty colors. I enjoy knitting, sewing, running, trombone-ing, gardening, & sci-fi short stories. Coding when necessitated and occasionally for fun. Microbiology for fun & (non-)profit.

Here is my finished Adventureland quilt, and bonus mini-quilt!

I finally got the hanging sleeve hand-sewn on the wall quilt. Now the sheet rock won't be in danger of coat hangers, and the corner is more colorful! I'm very happy with how fun my scrappy binding came out on the mini-quilt, too.

Pattern: Adventureland by Suzy Quilts, baby size (42" square, though mine ended at 37.5" after squaring up and shrinkage)

Fabric:
Stripes: Island Batiks jelly roll in "Tantalizing Teals"
Background: Anthology Batiks - Eclipse Lava "Moonstone" (This one started out a lovely light cool-toned marble grey, but ended up a grey-blue after washing, despite precautions.)
Binding: Island Batiks in "Bermuda" for the big quilt, scraps from trimming it all for the small quilt.
Backing: 100% cotton sheet, Target store-brand, many years old. (Did NOT turn blue!)

Full details at my PatternReview post.

Notes on dye bleed: The Island Batiks all had lots of excess dye to release, which I knew to expect from fabric store reviews. I soaked both quilts in a bathtub of Dawn dish soap for 2 hours, with one water change, agitating for 10 minutes each time. The water then ran clear, so it went for a wash in the machine and then to the dryer after I confirmed there wasn't any bleeding.

I am calling it a success as there was no remaining bleeding into the lighter-colored strips, and the backs remained white. However, the Moonstone batik was READY to receive that excess dye and turned a light blue! It soaked it up within seconds; there really didn't seem to be anything I could do. I didn't pre-wash the Moonstone for this quilt, which I guess left it ready to absorb dye. A lesson for next time! (Thank goodness I pre-washed the yardage I'm using for my stars quilt.)
