My hobbies are all excuses to collect pretty colors. I enjoy knitting, sewing, running, trombone-ing, gardening, & sci-fi short stories. Coding when necessitated and occasionally for fun. Microbiology for fun & (non-)profit.

I've got jury selection today, which is kind of nice: it's much closer to my house than work is, so I get to have a relaxed morning.

Last time I brought my knitting and a book and got all settled in for a long wait, and was called up in the first round. Then it turns out I was one of the only people who didn't have a DUI1 in that batch so I wound up on a jury for two weeks. The DA had very obviously and grossly over charged the defendant so we spent very little time in deliberation, a win for everyone (except the DA).

Curious to see what today will hold; I've got my professionally-fitted n95 masks and am on the last book in The Three Body Problem2 so I'm ready for waiting. (I'm avoiding taking my knitting since I still only get, like, 20 minutes with it before I need to put it down again. I miss the days of hours-long knitting sessions!)

  1. WTF is wrong with people in my county; I stopped going out on football days (except for work) and drinking-associated holiday weekends after that.
  2. I know the trilogy is technically A Remembrance of Earth's Past, but it's not nearly as fun to say. I do like this last book's title, Death's End and its direct Chinese translation God of Death Lives Forever. I'm about halfway through it and honestly, I think the direct translation is a better title. We've got Ken Liu back as translator and I'm much happier reading this one. I'll have to write up my thoughts on the series when I'm done, though it's been ages since I had room to write critically about a book. I'll have to oil the rusty machinery of my brain.
