I lived on a dead-end street. It probably counts as in the suburbs, but it wasn't one of those sprawling neighborhoods with cookie cutter houses. There were lots of large oak trees, kids playing in the street, and a cul-de-sac at the end where you could just barely see the river past the three "rich people" houses.

It was weird going back home after being away at college. The street had so many new families, and so many of the trees are gone due to hurricanes. I felt a bit like a stranger in my own home.

When I was a kid, there were several other kids on the street around my age, as well as a few who were a bit younger. As we grew up and quite a few families stuck around, the feel of the neighborhood changed. Less children, more adults, both young and old. But after a certain point we started getting kids again. Which isn't bad, just different.
