Thinking about the idea of a platonic form of a touhou girl, and what that might look like. Here is my list of what I consider the most distinctive criteria of touhou girls over girls from some other video game series or story serializations

  • Girl
  • Probably not actually young but possessing a youthful spirit
  • Connected to Japanese historical spirituality (i.e., Buddhism), albeit often loosely
  • Usually nocturnal
  • Capable of making friends (often after attacking them)
  • Reckless / aggressive
  • Drunk
  • At least one other major character flaw that makes them unreliable (gambling, tardiness, sleepy, never learned to read)
  • Fashionable hat

As a Touhou fan, those criteria are true, and assessing Kirby as one is Also accurate. They must also possess an ability, usually control over something but can be flexible (which IS a trait shared with Rinnosuke and so might not be exclusive to the girls of Touhou). Handily, Yuuma Toutetsu confirms that Kirby is a Touhou Girl, as her ability is essentially identical to Kirby's copy ability. You could argue that uniqueness is a required trait of the ability, as no two characters have the same ability, but Kirby's ability would have the unique stipulation of being a single instance of a talent, and not Yuuma's "consume once and have that ability", and many characters have abilities that ostensibly are the same thing (Cirno, Letty; Seija, Sagume; Reisen, Clownpiece) but with subtle differences. Therefore, Kirby is a Touhou Girl.
