sorry I've missed several days of DDQ (daily don quixote, where I listen to Don Quixote by Seventeen every day) but I listened to it today while I was putting away my laundry, and realized that I've unconsciously chosen it as a song to psych myself up to do tasks, mostly.

I read Cervantes' Don Quixote in high school, and my teenage mind did just kind of assume that the 'errant' in 'knight-errant' came from the same linguistic root as the word 'errand' (like going to the grocery store, buying gas, mailing a letter, etc.) I never really thought to question this, since a knight-errant is in fact a guy who runs around doing tasks, which is a lot like running errands. is it chivalric of me to put away my laundry? I mean, not really, no, since I'm not even running around doing things, and the laundry is my own and not laundry belonging to someone else who is in need of knightly assistance. there's really no connection to be made here, except that I had erroneously believed that knights were guys who did little tasks for many years, just like I do my little tasks. but actually, 'errant' comes from a word that means wander and 'errand' comes from a word that's about sending letters. according to wiktionary at least. I looked it up today. after I put away my laundry, when I would have rather been feeling the vibes.

I think I'm going to run out of things to talk about in the DDQ and actually end up rereading the book, which might be fun because I remember really liking it when I was 17.
