The reason shark fursonas look like that is because furries created a new open species called "sharks", distinct from the earth species commonly referred to as "sharks"
some traits were inspired by the Earth species though, such as them being perfectly smooth from all angles like the earth species. trust me, I have a degree in marine biology.
