RUST GUY: thats too hard. heres some libraries i think are good. Do you like this
ME: hey how do I do (relatively simple thing that's been a solved problem in language design since before I was born)
RUST GUY: oh you just have to (absurd bullshit that no reasonable person would ever tolerate)
the real rust answer is "you don't do that" because usually (relatively simple thing) carries a huge pile of hidden assumptions and potential for bugs
ME: I would like a graphics library
RUST GUY: now listen here you piece of shit
a lot of stuff is in development! I've been developing a game with ggez for the past couple of years.
A lot of stuff has "been in development" for years and since I started developing in Rust I've seen the rise and fall of two of them. The graphics situation in Rust is still a mess
complaining about the hype-driven cycle of rust graphics development is preaching to the choir. seeing amethyst go under was a bit of a watershed moment.
that being said i think for most indie devs ggez and macroquad are in "you can actually make a game with this" states
