not to be curmudgeonly, but cohost intentionally avoiding predatory UX, only for game dev twitter to flock to something as venture capital-y as hive, is... such a bummer

i feel like i should make a hive acct just to sit on the handle but the fact that it's like that + the fact that it's exclusively a phone app makes it a real hard sell
i made an account to check it out. i do not like it. the UI is unresponsive, it's got a fuckin' "for you" page. there's an ad every five posts (for ride sharing apps, hello fresh, etc). if you want to upload a photo, it requires access to your entire photo library, because of course it does. bad bad bad bad bad
the more I hear about it, the more it gives me the heebie fuckin' jeebies
i had literally not even heard of hive until today and now everyone seems so comfortable with hostile posting they want to get to new cheaper twitter??
Yeah, this sums it hour I'm feeling tbh.
I'm surprised how many people are cool with it just being an app as well? That feels so limiting to me.
I hate that it can only be used on phones! social media's not fantastic for my mental health at the best of times and removing apps from my phone is often the only way I can take a reasonable break
Phones app are easier to track, easier to extract useful data from, and easier to display a metric ton of ads on. It's an immense red flag from the get go IMHO.
I hate it so much. I'm not here enough, but I'm on Mastodon loads, and either of these places is nicer than Hive. We just got screwed out of a professional network by profit-driven douches... What is there to be gained by going to another network owned by more profit-driven douches? I'm increasingly feeling like the only people who can fix social media are us, the users, and we're given a chance to be better right now. Hive is not that.
i'm watching this happen with comics twitter. it is a bummer. though i think in their case they were pissed off at instagram as well, which makes it a better sell for them.
