there's A LOT to say about how AEW does storytelling (especially w/r/t how it fails, double especially when it comes to failures in their women's division) but their main event story, the World Championship, has been remarkably consistent across its many twists, turns, and champions; over and over again, it has been a story of men getting what they want and turning into monsters
- Chris Jericho immediately became "Le Champion", the most extreme rockstar version of his persona, and assembled an inner circle to bask in his glory and cheat whenever possible
- Jon Moxley, who was already ten kinds of psycho, was pushed to eleven into more and more hardcore shit, it's kinda hard to notice on account of the dude was already in love with violence, but it's there if you look
- Kenny Omega literally called himself the God of pro wrestling, NUFF SAID (there are way better people than me writing way better about the story of Kenny By God Omega)
- Adam Page, despite as ultimate a good guy as there can be, had to pull the moves Adam Cole pulled in order to put him down; maybe it's "just desserts", but it's also straight-up Cheating; when he realized that wasn't him, when he realized he didn't want to become that guy, he stopped being champion
- CM Punk won the championship and immediately started dumping on all your faves, INCLUDING Adam Page; but then he got injured, and so
- Jon Moxley came back as interim champion, and while he turned it down on the hardcore stuff he also became a guy Very Likely To Kill You With His Bare Hands If Given The Chance
- Next??? I don't know; but there's a unification match TOMORROW NIGHT and, I expect, shit will pop off
