Music you're allowed to enjoy and listen to in the Star Trek universe:

  1. Classical orchestrations

  2. Opera, klingon or otherwise

  3. Jazz, but only if you're that loose cannon, Will Riker.

I guess no one listens to any music after 1930. Or just, no modern compositions of any kind are made unless its inspired by classical orchestra, or one dude playing a flute.

Lower Decks needs a character who's like "yeah I'm real into the classics, studied it all my life" and pulls out some Imagine Dragons and everyone fucking hates him

Note: I've never actually watched Lower Decks, this could already be a gag for all I know

to be fair, ds9 does have a 60s music lounge holoprogram, complete with covers of songs from the 40s-60s by james darren. but we do still need to refer to imagine dragons as classical music à la doctor who's use of britney spears
