daily knowledge: HAPPY 4/20! throughout the united states, there are many long highways that extend well over 420 miles, and plenty of these highways have signs marking the miles. over the years, the "mile 420" signs have been stolen off their posts enough times that many of those highways have replaced them with "mile 419.99" signs in order to make them less tempting to local pranksters and stoners

I saw a sign that was labeled with a weird number like that recently and my first thought was "this would be a really funny thing to steal" so I don't know how well that's workikg....
