this is basically just like. it's wordpress. it's not a social media website its just a blogging platform because there's no... Social aspect to it. i hate algorithms and Discoverability as much as the next person which is why ive never really liked twitter but i found so many cool people on tumblr just by looking through my notes for interesting or insightful comments and following the people who made them. everyone is siloed off on their own little Page and interacting is made actively difficult

in reply to @tattletale's post:

for discoverability, i usually just go through tags to find new posts, follow the people who made some good ones, and see who they're reblogging. i also think commenting on posts is key for connecting with people. it's a whole different thing compared to tumblr and takes some getting used to, for sure

I do agree in the general sense (it feels more like Dreamwidth, if you could reblog things Tumblr style) however. Finding people in your comments and following them is extremely possible, and commenting is encouraged! I’ll occasionally reply to a post on Tumblr but being on Cohost makes me want to actually engage via comments vs just hitting ‘like’ and moving on.

Yeah, I like a lot about this site but it is very clear that "structurally prevent mass harassment campaigns" was a higher design priority than "have functional social features" which is very noble but also kind of makes it frustrating to use. There's just no way to find the interesting conversations!

Big agree. Pretty much the main thing keeping me here is that my bubble at least has stuff from my friends who still post here, and there’s almost no bigoted garbage here at all. But as a freelancer, sharing my works here is just miserable and the staff is pretty hostile on making it better in that regard lol
