obviously a big theme of the past year has been the reevaluation of social media's roles in everyone's respective lives, with many people (such as myself) opting for a quieter life in more intimate online spaces. i think it's worth it. but i also think it's harder than it seems on its face. when your mind isn't full of other people's thoughts, you have to relearn how to be comfortable in your own head. i'm suddenly discovering all of the deficits in my life that i was self-medicating with social media. it's a lot like how you might think your apartment is generally clean until your landlord has announced a visit and suddenly all the food spatters on the stove and the dust on the baseboards and the soap scum on the bathroom walls are screaming at you.
