skrillex's new album is... fine
this is probably a little unfair because I don't think there's a meaningful cause & effect to this being bad necessarily but seeing the entire album (except for one track which is an intro to the last song) be Skrillex & [Producer and/or Vocalist] had me kinda setup for disappointment and I don't know. It's fine. "XENA" and "Supersonic (my existence)" are standouts. The rest is just... well produced stuff I'm pretty used to hearing from seasoned dance producers.
We'll never get another Scary Monsters/Nice Sprites, and that's fine. But I'd at least kinda like to have another Recess or something else that just gets my imagination goin' a lil'
the addendum to this post is that you can still just go listen to Bangarang instead. glad sonny's still out there doing his thing and doing it well but i think what makes me not really want to go back to Quest For Fire is that it's not especially unique in terms of soundscapes as I'd like for someone who might as well have single-handedly invented an era of club music, for better or worse.
regardless of what you thought of his music in that 2010-2012 era, nothing else sounded like it. very little does, still.
updating everyone on this that it's now in semi-regular rotation. willing to cop to being wrong on this one and that it just had to grow on me, except for XENA which slapped from the start
