i've adjusted pretty ok to switching from a TKL to a 60% and it's making me wonder if keyboard comfort is just some "all in your head" type shit

how far can i push this can i go even less than 60 can I get away with a 40

the answer is no i actually need the number row a lot for art shortcuts

but it's been a nice change. i'm sad the model i got isn't available in low-profile since I prefer that but that can be something for later in a custom build. rn i'm using the CM SK622 and moved off of a SK-630. they don't require software which makes them better than like 90% of keyboard offerings

in reply to @erica's post:

I used a preonic layout (it's like a plank 40% but with a number row) and never had any issues with having shortcuts or anything. Having the number row was awesome
Now I use my MacBook keyboard because my setup has gotten changed qround

40%s are usable in places I assumed they wouldn't be but it always involves something unhinged like "it's easy, if you want to play FPSs on a 40% you just make 2-9 start on E instead of W so you can move forward and swap weapons at the same time" that requires relearning ALL of your muscle memory even if you're already used to typing on a 40%

they're really nice for plain old typing though!

I've been using a 96% board (basically a fullsize amount of keys in the footprint of a TKL) for so long, I'm really used to the layout. I've always wanted a 60 or 65 but I'm so used to the numpad I don't think I could give it up lmao

That's how I felt before I switched to TKL because so much of my 'typing in numbers' muscle memory was numpad but it's surprising how fasted I adjusted to not having it, much like how fast I adjusted to this. For me, at least, my muscle memory takes so much longer to adjust when I do have an alternative (see, changing shortcuts on the same keyboard layout) but when there's no other option (there's no numpad to reach!) then that gets overwritten pretty fast with 'ah that's how i do this now'.

If you can find one that's not too spendy I'd give it a try!
