I spent a lot of time in a place called New Homestead. It's a settlement on Titan populated by people who really miss Earth. They have it hard, there. I had to scrape ice off the wind turbines and help with a bunch of other things that break down because they're pretty stuck in their ways. For good reason, I guess. I can go back home. They can't, and they have to endure constant blizzards too. When I arrived there the landing pad engineer told me to find the building ahead and I couldn't even see it!
I talked to pretty much everyone on the station. I've been hop-skipping across the system so much that the day or two I spent here felt like an eternity. I've been to a couple other places since but I'm still thinking about it here and there.
It made me think a lot about Pacifica and how much we identify as being from there but only because it's the name on our ID certs. If you really think about it, it doesn't mean all that much to be from where I'm from? We're only really proud of it when we have a need to tell others they aren't from Pacifica. I don't know. I've never thought about it all that much but they think about it constantly because where they came from is all they have.
When I'm done with some of the tasks I've gathered around the systems I'll probably go back and visit to say hi. I'm sure they'll need help with the turbines again.
