tired of heroes in multiplayer videogames just let me be a person and make the game part not be contingent on specific play styles assigned to characters i might not even like

brought to you by seeing animated avatars in CS2 at the top of the screen and wishing that was every videogame

this is by far the most offputting thing about foamstars to me as a splatoon player lmao

i feel like it's harder to break away from in mobas and such given the nature of visual cues you need to react to but i totally feel it in shooters

I liked the way Tribes, Tribes 2, and Tribes: Vengeance did it. Just light, medium, and heavy frames, which you customize the load out for and some things only work on light or heavy frames. Bingo bango, pretty fun times as basically everything was a viable build.

And then it got MTXed to death in Tribes Ascend. Sorta? Sometimes? You had to buy/unlock preset loadouts. It was a confusing enough mess to make me bounce very after a day.

How I yearn for the simplicity of games that weren't designed to continually extract money from players.

honestly even class stuff i'm waning on. seeing CS2 come out and it just being a shooter where you're a guy and what matters is your loadout, map knowledge, and teamwork is like... god we had it good for so long and just didn't know.

like class stuff is fine and it works great in TF2 and... well, mostly just TF2. like the concept is sound but I think it's used in games now to enforce teamplay in games that are fundamentally not condusive to teamplay. shit like overwatch, valorant, etc fails because synergy is required and synergy does not happen when you are matchmaking with randos because randos are monsters and there's a x2 multiplier for that in Riot/Blizzard lobbies

Oh I was approaching it from a Destiny/RPG type standpoint for pve shooter type stuff where imitators of that tend to box you into a “hero” when I really just wanna pick a class, create my char, and get some cool loot.

Definitely tho when it comes to pvp I definitely prefer just having guns on a map and just running around and shooting haha. None of that hero competitive type stuff interests me in that kind of arena.
