i go through this like once a year but we, collectively as a people, don't talk enough about how insane the vis-dev is in that movie. i would pretty strongly argue it's timeless stuff.

It was 13 years ago (oof) so my memories are really fuzzy but I loved it when it was in theatres! I think it was mostly Disney's marketing making it out to be more than it was (which is A Fun Time and little more). It had insane buzz around it thanks to tie-in games and Daft Punk on the soundtrack, which the latter was maybe the biggest hype-driver considering they hadnt released an album in years by then.

yeah i remember the hype for it was huge and was all over. also just took a look at reviews and the flashiness worked against it on everything but IMAX it feels like. imagine seeing this on DVD on a lcd/crt tv. AND it came out in 3D so there was that gimmick too.
gonna put it on the list to watch again.
there's unfortunately no 4k/HDR version which SUCKS. the entire thing was filmed digitally so it sounds like the actual source footage maxes out at 1080 for most of it. the bluray still looks amazing at least but i'd kill for a higher fidelty version somehow
Oh I just went on a deep dive apparently there’s a few 4K HDR remuxes out there upscaled and tonemapped, one which just rereleased that people seem to like.
Yesss!! It's no Oscar-winning critical masterpiece, but it sure is a hell of a fun time. The vibes are immaculate.
I lump it in with Mass Effect: Andromeda as a piece of media that lost public opinion because of some (easily ignorable) issues with CG characters and the uncanny valley.
I watched this movie this year! I dug almost everything except the script. Great visual design, great music, great performances. I had a good time with it.
it’s absolutely stunning. the light, the glass, the stone, the water… just an unparalleled aesthetic. I deeply want someone to make a game set on the Grid in a modern engine, and even more than that I want to work on that game.
