harmonix's legacy of making some of the finest rhythm games ever made being reduced to a fortnite mode that charges you more than double what rock band does to buy a new song is like... beyond soul-crushing dude idk how else to put it. sega out there still innovating arcades overseas with insanely new ideas for rhythmic input and arguably the best western dev to ever do it making a 'game' forcibly depthless because it has to be played over internet by kids.

It really breaks my heart, tbh. Especially when stuff from smaller devs like Spin Rhythm and Rhythm Doctor have been hitting this year and are exciting in the way that Harmonix's work was at its peak (not to diminish the work of those devs by just comparing them to someone else, but you know.) By comparison I've been playing some of Festival and you can really feel how unambitious and pared-down it is. To say nothing of the add-on song situation, which is a whole other layer of shit.

super saddening, especially hearing things like "epic helped them make rock band 5!" from people who haven't had the joy of experiencing 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 with a small group of friends packed in a room together. 3 is still one of my favorite multiplayer games period and i love hauling the instruments out of my closet whenever i get the chance
