says a lot about my persona exhaustion that not even mitsuru in 1080p is enough to pull me into P3R. there was a really good post going around here a bit ago that i lost track of talking about how the new intro video made it pretty clear that it's just going for a different thing over the original P3 and it's definitely a like "hey if this works for you i'm happy for you" thing but man. think i just gotta sit on this one and be okay with leaving my feelings of those games in the past instead of just yearning for what will never be again

helps to have granblue relink to play also which is just, like, wholesale excellent so far

Yeah, it has definitely been A Process as, y'know, a one-time Atlus Guy myself who obviously owes a chunk of his career to those games to decouple myself from what they and kinda Atlus more widely has ultimately become the last several years. They first came into my life at the best moment they could've—and in some ways, emotionally needed something like them to come—but a literal lifetime later, I want and need different things from my games and my deep distaste for SMT5's writing in particular on top of everything else that's transpired pretty much solidified that the divorce papers really were done and signed. There was a moment where I thought of jumping onto this remake to touch base with that story again and see how I stood with it when it used to mean so much to me, but nothing I've seen has particularly suggested to me that much of anything would be rekindled and, like you wrote, it's not even necessarily its fault. I'm just a very different player who looks at these things through a way different lens 18 years later.

Great to hear Relink is legit, though! All my translator friends who have been playing it have been singing its praises, too. Genuinely cool to see Cygames' ambition to always move into console dev eventually is actually paying dividends. I wish more devs in that space had that desire, or at least without bringing their other baggage into it.

Yeah, like... I think they found their 'identity' a game or two after I found mine with it and now we're just on different pages. P3R really doubling-down on the "you're hangin' with your friends!" thing is extremely just not what I want from it. And like I didn't mind the writing in SMT5 all that much but it was also such a botched game in over other aspect that it's hard to feel like anyone left there is really making the stuff I wanna play. They'll keep trotting out Jack Frost in Raidou outfits and stuff making me feel like someone there cares but, yknow. The time is gone, I think.

I've been really vibing with Relink these past few days, too! I was initially worried it was going to have some kinda gotcha (some battle pass nonsense, seasonal live service garbage, etc) since GBVS Rising does, but when I saw that it wasn't going to have anything like that I was really excited to hop in.

I've always kind of thought Granblue was cool from a distance but could never bring myself to really play it on account of the gacha stuff, so finally having something I can enjoy has been a treat
