Twitter was previously blocking/banning people who posted bluesky links... There is no telling what rules/whims/emotions elon will enforce or not enforce on any given day so plenty of people just playing it safe
Well, at the very least people believed that was happening, myself included, and didn't want to risk it
Perhaps he’s thinking of this kerfuffle from December 2022 regarding other social networks https://www.theverge.com/2022/12/18/23515221/twitter-bans-links-instagram-mastodon-competitors afaik Bluesky was not impacted (perhaps it was not deemed notable enough to be included in this article but that seems unlikely to me)
I signed up just to make sure my username wasn't taken, immediately noticed there is no way to add 2FA with my authenticator app. Really funny that this site has had it for months but not the "real" twitter killer.
it would be funny if it wasn’t so sad how people really think others will bother retype usernames like that lmao
i dont think it is either, but its a huge ""rumor"" that posting a link in the main post can kill traction. i've experienced it, but also im pretty sure i've been suppressed for years on twitter.
It's boogeyman stuff conjured by people's inability (in a general sense not in a pejorative one) to cope with a black box. People who's job it is to operate and use social media have time and time again said that this stuff, especially on Twitter, is never the result of shadowbanning or algorithims or censorship. It's just how people behave. They hate being sold to and they don't want to leave the Content Slurry site. Twitter, if anything, is the best site for doing that because places like Instagram and TikTok actually do actively prevent you from linking out/leaving.
yeah i totally get it, i do all my advertising on twitter which sorta helps but im just hoping its a bit better on bluesky if i use it a bit more often.
i did a pretty solid test to see clickthru performance across all the sites i used and fwiw bluesky ranked the lowest despite having something like 5-10x the active users cohost has, which was by far and away where most clicks came from alongside direct contact like email/app updates
i think wherever you feel most comfortable is where you should focus your efforts ultimately but twitter has always been a bad place to do business, it just had a lot of people which made it ok in some capacity. its structure makes it bad for it and i pretty strongly believe "twitter 2: this time there's less users" will be wholly susceptible to the same problems
the brain sickness of "ooh we can't post links anymore because SUPPRESSION" is strong
