I know pulling from one of the all-time directorial GOATs is sorta straining the validity of this argument but dude every time I watch a movie that's pre-2014ish I'm just like... sad, man. We used to LIGHT movies look at this LIGHTING. The mood! The contrast! The ability to still blowout the highlights while keeping natural bounce lighting where its needed!

Lena and I have been plowing through some sci-fi shows over dinner and recently finished season 1 of Foundation which is better than most but is still infuriatingly lit/shot. There are dark scenes that are unwatchable unless we turn off all the lights/shut the blinds. Shots in spaceships are lit with super soft lighting with no rimlights whatsoever. And again that's like... not the worst I've seen!

I know the reasons why it's like this now, filming on digital is far more a curse than a blessing in the era of pumping content out as fast as possible, I'm just fucking sad the desire to even try to curb that is basically nil.
