the liquor store near us updated their debit card machine to ask for tip and it's the most confusing thing ever because i am grabbing beer off the shelf and bringing it to the front and they just ring me up and i leave

so now i just don't shop there anymore cuz the anxiety of staring a cashier down while i hit No Tip is too much for my brain to handle

Yeah, the liquor store tip etiquette always feels weird to me. I guess tip if someone actually goes out of their way to help…? But a tip option that doesn’t get used 99% of the time feels weird

yeah, I've definitely had LC employees go out of there way in a way that warranted a tip (either to them or a proxy) but not at the rate that would warrant the option

if it's one of these white wireless terminals i think tipping is enabled by default. had to configure one for my dad's store cause his terminal asked for tipping for shoe repairs lmfao. dude probably just forgot to turn it off or just kept it on in case

Yeah in Australia places struggle with the fact that all the US-based companies have tipping on by default and they can't figure out how to turn it off. So they awkwardly take the machine back from you to hit "no tip" before you put your card in
