it would be cool if websites let you be an adult on them. the advertisers and payment processors need everything to be Family Friendly though, and their definitions of family and friendly are absolutely fucked. but since they're in charge of the Internet now, no one is allowed to be an adult. tiktokers say things like "unalive" and "seggs" because they know death and sex are too adult for online. online is for idiot babies only now because they're easier to market to

and yet, advertisers will sexualize the hell out of their products to sell it. here's a chocolate chip cookie twerking on a glass of milk. here's mac and cheese that will give you an orgasm. here's a truck that'll get you laid. buy this dog food if you want to have puppies. download this pyramid scheme investment app so scantily clad women won't laugh at you anymore. this pasta sauce was made by people getting down and dirty in the kitchen while they made it. this body wash is more fun with two people. use this deodorant after sex and she'll be wanting for round two.

advertisers are allowed to be horny but we're not and it's maddening

Ads for goddamn online gambling that can't even be called euphemisms for masturbation; outright sad bait-and-switch attempts. On Canadian TV at all hours of the day. The dishwasher detergent that's the same somehow.

oh, the "unalive" thing is because tiktok censors nearly every negative word and the users have to get around it, so it's more tiktok's fault than the users. still absolutely a symptom of this though. and also the tiktokers don't realise other sites don't censor words the same way so they take it out of there

On the flip side, there used to be a plethora of websites for kids in the 00s and early 10s that hosted all sorts of games you could play, but the death of flash, increasingly invasive advertising, and the prevalence of predatory mechanics on sites like Roblox have just about destroyed most of them.

The only reason these people care about children at all is because kids are easy to entertain and even easier to wring money out of. It was never about safety.

It's funny too how stuff like phone games can be openly raunchy or awful because Apple and Google will protect it in exchange for 30% of billions of dollars

But the payment processors don't want to deal with the little guy

I've been occasionally avoiding and unsubscribing YouTubers with over 10k subs, mainly because it sickens me hearing people unable to say "fuck" due to the monetization policy changes. I don't really see the corporate sanitization of the internet slowing down any soon, we won't be able to defeat nor survive its engulfing, and it's a miracle some of the sites that fight against it like the one I'm typing my comment in are still alive.
