I know you can attach a blog to a neocities site, currently looking into that myself.
At this point, I am considering learning how to make my own website. My own host and everything. Just something for blog posts about my gamedev and other things.
I highly recommend https://11ty.dev for that. it’s a little bit obtuse but you keep your source content in folders of text/HTML/markdown/etc files and you keep your “baked site” in a folder of HTML files and it’s just… yours. There are other static site generators and some of them are probably good too, but having the source content, the presentation layer, and the output all be three distinct things is really good and healthy imo
Netlify has a mode where you can basically just drag and drop your website folder and they will host it for you
https://ghost.org/ it has newsletters, paid memberships, tipping. I run multiple installs of it for people and it's great. You can also just pay them and use your own domain.
They announced adding the ability for posts to be visible on the social networks with open protocols in the future. Think mastadon one is first.
I should also say they are not vc funded.
is there a reason people seem to dislike Medium? I was considering looking into it
Very hostile to readers; you can only read X articles per week, lots of annoying pop-ups, etc. It seems like they have a huge venture capital-shaped hole that they are desperate to fill
there's pillowfort i guess, i'm not sure how much i trust it
yeah, i know of it, but it's more of a ship of Theseus situation for me, it's not the same, u know
