the dumbest thing i can say about bluesky is that ive made the site actually okay to use by completely disabling retweets
it turns out that if you turn off the firehose of shit you for sure dont need to see, you only see the shit people are actually taking the time to say which is like not even 0.5% of this site's power but it's like... better
which im only doing because the site doesnt let you disable RTs on a per-user basis
the amount of decisions that are 95% rational and then absolutely buck wild in the last 5% is stunning
i might have to try this... disabling replies was not nearly enough
if it works it works ..? Probably not a good sign for a platform when you have to disable all the features the devs thought were good
This is how I’ve done it since day 1 since you can’t toggle individual users retweets. I even have the mind to disable showing peoples replies to others on my feed if only because then my feed will 100% be posts made by people I follow. I don’t have any other feeds so I don’t see all the trending either (because I also don’t care about that).
Meanwhile over on twitter my algorithm constantly thinks I wanna see the worst, horribly alt right stuff ever because no matter how much I try to control it or mute it twitter is insistent I see it anyway.
It's nice knowing that's an option
it sucks knowing that they'll likely remove that and revert it to the good old twitter-esque way since the site is privatized social media made by a company that, despite them claiming otherwise, is pure profit
I like seeing retweets just cause my timeline is pretty quiet normally, but I have an extra feed that's only posts directly from people I follow and nobody else so I don't miss them
