idk what fastmail is but I started using Thunderbird (email and rss client) late last year and it's improved my mail experience a ton. mostly bc I've got way too many email addresses and now they're all (1) available immediately (don't need to load) and (2) available from the same place (don't need to switch account).
sure beats opening and waiting for 3 separate browser tabs every time I wanna check my email

I really enjoy fastmail but I mainly left gmail because I didn't want anything to do with google anymore if I could get them out of my life and the end of the free Google Workspace (previously G Suite and Google Apps for Work) last year motivated me to switch. I do not really think the fastmail interface is a huge improvement over gmail's web interface but it is somewhat consistent and at least isn't scanning my email to deliver ads to me (even if I don't see them due to an adblocker). Fortunately, fastmail happily delivers mail from my dozens of domains and email aliases directly to the same inbox or whichever mailbox I prefer, pretty happy with it. If you're using the Google Workspace product I also wrote a little about making sure your email continues to be delivered after switching: https://nuclearmonster.com/2022/03/avoiding-lost-mail-after-migrating-from-google-workspace/

I’ve been with Fastmail over a year now and I’m pretty much happy with it. I had a few wrinkles here and there like the Windows mail client not working with it (because it doesn’t have POP/IMAP SUPPORT…), but the web client was honestly better than either windows mail or thunderbird anyway, so now I just leave it in a tab.

Been with them just shy of a decade and I really like them and would recommend. It’s very easy to migrate from other providers, too, and they do include some basic web hosting and such if you want it. I do use apple mail myself, so I’m not frequently using the fastmail app/web client (they’re the same thing, really) but it’s nice and easy to use when I’ve interacted with it directly - you can get 10% off your first year with my referral code if you want also ✨
