oh i never actually answered this
this gets really long so i'll put a read more if you wanna see me go into car nerd territory but,
when i am talking about the "modern heckblende", i mean horizontal taillights. this shit.
unfortunately, because we live in a nightmare world, almost every manufacturer has decided that this is what the modern luxury car and/or EV should look like. which sucks! because this concept, the horizontal taillight, or heckblende (lit.: "rear cover") used to exist in a way cooler style.
gonna angry post about it here instead of twitter but why the fuck does the new Civic (RS) look like this man
im even gonna play with one arm tied behind my back and not link the 5th or 6th gen--whatever happened to like the friendly lookin' car that a teenager and grandmother could drive.
whatever happened to the city car (not the actual Honda City, you know what i mean)
worse is that the thing is basically not even a civic anymore it's functionally a Honda Accord with a hair shorter wheelbase.
im not even being a kei-supremacy type right now i just miss the standard compact car actually existing instead of being an aggro-designed sedan-derivative monstrosity
A friend. A gentle pal. A little beep-beep.

Taking the opportunity to (again) share our car, which is 2005 Daihatsu Atrai Wagon. It cost us CAD$15k w/ a 5-year warranty and is so economic on fuel that I only refill it once every 2-3 months. A full tank is about CAD$60 despite putting 93 octane in it cuz it's turbocharged and I want it running smoother.
Our neighbor has a 2023 Range Rover Sport, which has an MSRP of minimum USD $80k. A full tank of gas is USD ~$120 on the cheapest octane.
From the spec sheets I've found, our van at maximum stowing capacity (passenger and rear seats down, which create a flat surface because the seats fold into the floor) has about 15-20 cubic feet more storage space than the Range Rover.
I will admit I was being very selective there with my info. There's some obvious downsides to having a kei car/truck, but they can be minor to non-existent for a lot of folks depending on your situation
otherwise AMA i love talking about our little guy
