it is the cause of every single unpopular decision around tag search/visibility we have had to make, and the cause of all performance issues that stemmed from those decisions. i will not elaborate on this further. i hate the cohost global feed and spend much of my time considering ways to render it fully useless since the only way to truly kill it is through irrelevance.

EDIT: i'm elaborating a bit. the performance issues don't come from having a bunch of posts in the same tag (this costs us literally nothing), it comes from the arcane "effective search tags" system we had to create to cut down on the community/social issues that stemmed from people using the global feed to put posts in front of a much larger audience than was initially intended by OP, which was almost exclusively used for harassment. most of these perf issues have been resolved by now but it sucked to get here, and (at least imo) the global feed phenomenon has stunted the growth of a healthy tag culture.

9AM EDIT: i am locking comments on this post because it became mad unconstructive overnight. the correct read of "render it fully useless" is "make it so that it's not necessary", not "force everyone off of it."

once again wishing cohost had a way to uninvent something. i created the global feed as a joke (as evidenced by the awkward phrasing), people took it seriously, and then as an even more obvious joke about the tendency of 20th century marxist-leninist political parties to split, tagged something as "the cohost global feed (marxist-leninist)," and everyone just fucking shrugged their shoulders and took this as the pattern. stop!!! just use normal tags! please! this is not the way to develop a good tagging culture and promote discoverability!

edit: it's gone so far as to make other things on the site worse. the global feed was a mistake and the time has come to move beyond it.

Happy to say I did the promotional art/poster for 2024's Japan Impact convention in Switzerland! I'll be doing some other art for them that I'll show at a later date, too, but they revealed this a bit early so I get to share it now! :D

Their theme for next year is yōkai and I didn't want to make something especially scary or creepy and wanted to draw a bunch of weird little guys as friends so here's a bunch of friendly little guys!

I've taken in a lot of various media over the years that have very directly included yōkai or been influenced by them and it would have been lame to, like, lift those or try and be Accurate since, like, it's not my culture. I spent a good day and a half nose-down in research so I could interpret the ones I picked out with my own vision and I had so much fun doing that. It was really difficult--I'm not a creature designer and I'm terrible at drawing anything resembling an animal in general--but I'm so happy with how they all turned out.

The only one I sorta kept the same is the tanuki since, well, if you know, you know.
