I'm posting this here first before Mastodon... but if any of you know of any Southern California or Arizona-based tape preservation organizations who'd be happy to take the TV recorded stuff I have in storage for free, could you point them to me?
I'm having issues with my house (literally... it's collapsing on me) and I'm trying to move out before the end of the year or the house collapses in on me. I'm in the middle of sorting out everything I need to sell off, and I have a ton of TV recorded VHS tapes that I bought up over the years to preserve, but the past three years have been pretty bad, and so... I never could get around to them. (I finally got a decent rig to rip these and have no space to put the tape data in...)
And I have at least 200 tapes.
So instead of trying to sell these off, I want people who will actually try to preserve their contents to take them. I don't mind if they're resold, as long as their contents are preserved and posted online first.
My house is in Mexicali, Mexico, very close to the border (I live a couple of miles away from the West port of Entry.) Most of these tapes were purchased at the flea markets in Calexico, California, so the tapes likely come from all over California and Arizona. Some were given to me by a friend and are Spanish language recordings (I might keep those to try to rip myself).
My only request is that you bring your own bins and boxes to take the tapes in. And you're gonna need a truck or van to take these. There's not that many but they're bulky.
If you're absolutely serious about taking these, please let me know.
