HD and UHD is fine (i guess), but i find something especially comfortable about high-definition footage that is still in the 4:3 aspect ratio, like 1440x1080 or 1280x960

I always found 4:3 a more pleasant aspect in general since both dimensions are given roughly equal weight, even if balancing height and width means that you need to make compromises with how things are presented. That's also why I lament 16:10 never taking off: it was the perfect balance of height to width, and it also matches Doom's native, uncorrected resolution of 320x200!
